Release

Purpose

Define how a validated build becomes a release candidate and then a release.

Release candidate

A release candidate is the approved artifact intended for production deployment.

Release responsibilities

• Confirm the release candidate matches the validated build
• Record release notes or equivalent release metadata
• Keep the release traceable to the source revision and validation results

Release gate

A release should only proceed when the required review, validation, and approval conditions are satisfied.

Promotion model

• Release is artifact promotion.
• Deployment is runtime promotion.

Product documentation

Release information should point developers and operators to the relevant product documentation, including PDP.md if it exists.
