Platform Architecture¶
The PotatoLabs platform is the shared engineering foundation used to create, build, release, deploy, and monitor products.
Platform layers¶
- Source control and collaboration: GitLab CE
- Development environment: code-server
- Delivery automation: GitLab CI/CD
- Runtime packaging: Docker
- Traffic entry and reverse proxying: Nginx
- Persistent relational storage: PostgreSQL
- Caching and short-lived state: Redis
- Monitoring and operational visibility: platform monitoring services and alerts
PDP architecture¶
PDP, the PotatoLabs Developer Platform, is the set of shared platform capabilities used across products.
PDP does not force every product to use every service. Instead, it provides optional capabilities that products adopt when they need them.
Platform responsibilities¶
- Host product repositories and collaboration workflows
- Provide code-server access for development
- Run CI/CD pipelines for validation, build, and release
- Support containerized deployment workflows
- Expose operational services for logs, metrics, and alerts
- Provide common security and operational controls
Platform boundaries¶
The platform owns the shared tooling and infrastructure.
Products own their own application behavior, product data, and product-specific runtime decisions.
