Development

Purpose

Define the standard development workflow inside the workspace and code-server.

Preflight

Before modifying a repository, an AI development agent should read AGENTS.md, then PDP.md, then the canonical preflight checklist in PMP-002 AI-Assisted Development, and then apply any product-specific instructions from PDP.md, if present.

Workflow

  • Create a development branch
  • Implement only the approved scope
  • Update tests and documentation as needed
  • Run validation locally
  • Inspect git status and diff
  • Report the changes and validation results

Developer responsibilities

  • Own the change from implementation through local validation
  • Keep the work scoped and reviewable
  • Avoid hidden architecture changes

AI-agent responsibilities

AI agents may:

  • Inspect the repository
  • Implement approved changes
  • Run formatting, linting, tests, and builds
  • Inspect git status and diffs
  • Report changes and validation results

AI agents must not:

  • Expose secrets
  • Silently change architecture
  • Bypass CI or release gates
  • Deploy to production unless explicitly authorized
  • Invent requirements or product behavior beyond the approved scope

Branching and commits

Use Git for version control and create commits that are reviewable and traceable.

Validation

Run local checks appropriate to the change, then hand off to CI/CD for automated validation.
